Teen Skin Care Tips to Make You Look Younger
Teens often look pretty great, right? Sure, they may suffer some skincare issues and they’re still finding themselves, but all in all, we can take some great tips from them to look wonderful ourselves. Wondering how looking like a teenager will change your life? Well, as an adult, you probably don’t want to look like you’re still in high school. However, you can steal some teen skincare tips to look your best, no matter your age. Here they are!
1. EAT THE RIGHT FOODS
The teen years are often ones that involve a lot of drive-thru food and other such junk. As a teen, my mom told me to watch what I eat if I didn’t want bad skin. That’s advice you can still use today. Your skin might not be as touchy as it was when you were in high school, but it still needs all the right nutrients to stay looking healthy and young. Limit the junk and eat healthy foods most of the time and you’ll be so glad you did.
2. CHOOSE PRODUCTS FORMULATED FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE
Your skin type may change as you get older, but this age-old advice will last you for a lifetime. When you’re a teen, you can begin to see what kind of skin you have, whether it’s dry, oily or normal. Keeping tabs on what your skin is doing, even past your teen years, can help you choose the right products for cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
3. QUIT PICKING AT YOUR SKIN
This is something I learned as a teen and it has served me well as I have gotten older. Picking at your skin can spread germs that lead to breakouts and I can attest to the fact that popping pimples leaves scars that you’ll be covering up for the rest of your life. Leave your skin alone! Your teen self wishes she could go back in time and slap your hand off your zits, so save her the trouble.
4. CLEANSE YOUR SKIN EVERY SINGLE DAY
Most dermatologists say that they tell their teen clients to make sure they cleanse well at least once a day. This removes toxins and bacteria that build up on your face during the day and removes makeup and skin products at the same time. Your best bet, no matter how old you are, is to wash at night before bed. You might also benefit from washing in the morning.
5. MOISTURIZING WILL ALWAYS BE IMPORTANT
I don’t think a day has gone by since I was about 12 or 13 when I haven’t moisturized my face. Getting into the habit as a teen sets the stage for a lifetime of making the right choices as you get older. Moisturizing ensures that your skin stays hydrated and healthy. As you get older, moisturizing helps mask fine lines and wrinkles. Now is the time to start if you haven’t already.
6. TREAT SPECIFIC SKIN ISSUES
Most teen girls battle some degree of acne and you may find that your shifting hormones and stress levels cause breakouts even when you’re older. When you have a skin issue, it’s best to treat it appropriately right away. As a teen, those treatments might be different than when you grow up, but the lesson here is to treat anything that’s going on so your skin will always look its best.
7. WEAR SPF EVERY SINGLE DAY
This is a habit that every girl should have, no matter how young or old she happens to be. Again, getting into the habit as a young age provides benefits as you get older. Sunscreen prevents age spots, wrinkles and skin cancer so it’s a must-have in any girl’s skincare arsenal.
8. TRY THE BRAND NEW CTM ROUTINE
CTM stands for cleansing, toning and moisturizing. I’ve mentioned proper cleaning and hydrating of your skin, but combined with toning, you can have dewy fresh skin like that of a teenager. Start by gently cleansing your skin, then follow up with a toner. This helps clear pores, preventing acne and blemishes. Finish it off with a the right moisturizer and you’re well on your way to the best skin in town.
9. DRINK MORE WATER
This advice applies to everyone, teen or otherwise. Water is important for healthy and youthful skin and skimping on your intake can result in a dry, dull complexion. As long as your urine is light yellow, you can assume you’re well hydrated. If you have trouble reaching your quota, start carrying a cute water bottle with you to help remind you to drink often throughout the day.
10. GET ENOUGH EXERCISE ON A DAILY BASIS
Exercise is vital for many aspects of your health, including how your skin looks. When you’re working out, you improve blood circulation, which helps keep skin looking great. At the same time, regular exercise optimizes nutrient use and a healthy weight, both of which will also keep your skin looking fresh, young and beautiful.
